Mac Modem Configuration

You can configure your Macintosh modem by clicking on the apple icon and going to the control panels to select the modem option (as shown below). <next>

The modem setup window is shown below. Click the drop-down menu on the "connect via" box to choose "modem port" if it isn't already selected. Be sure to check if the modem is an internal modem (inside the computer) or an external modem (outside of the computer). The internal modems are always either the Apple Internal 56k or a Global Village modem.

Click the modem drop-down box to select the correct modem on earlier Mac systems. Newer Mac systems will have a window like the second one (below) where it is already selected. It is also a good idea to turn the sound "on" for troubleshooting purposes.

  

Sometimes you will get a "modem not responding error" with external modems. There will be a small power button in the back. Try turning "off" the modem for about ten seconds and then restarting it. If that doesn't fix the problem then you will need to contact the modem manufacturer.
